Art Appreciator #1: The Rienzi Museum
Located in the ritzy part of Houston, River Oaks, the former 600 sq ft home has been transformed to a 1200 sq ft mansion filled with 17th through mid 19th century art from all over the world!
Accompanied by docēnts, we learned about the amazing history of the house, it’s owners and their impact to their community.
The Rienzi museum allows its visitors to see just how much the appreciation of art is woven into the history of Houston, with a new piece added to the home’s collection.
The Rienzi has tours weekly and hosts special events and throughout the year.
Art Appreciator #2:
The Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s “Cloud Column”
Recently the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) revamped their sculpture garden game! We spent some time here climbing up to the rooftop view of Houston as well as admiring the sculptures.
Most notable is the recent 2018 addition of Anish Kappor’s Cloud Column, constructed as a study in 2006, the outdoor sculpture is a precursor to Chicago’s Cloud Gate.
It stands two stories tall, adding a bit of height to The Brown Foundation Plaza and being a great place to get an artsy pic!
The journey to the roof of the Glassell building is a bit of a hike and the sun kept trying to hide from us… but the view is worth it, as well as the evening breeze you might be lucky to catch!
Fanatic Foodie #2: Spindletop
What a view!
With a 360 degree panoramic view of Houston buildings and along with a great ambiance, Spindletop is a great place for an anniversary or birthday celebration - specifically my birthday which I celebrated during Memorial weekend! I love the revolving concept, the service is great definitely a restaurant to try!
Fanatic Foodie #3: Empire Cafe
Everyone enjoy a good cup of coffee…. or tea (gotta keep my British ways)!! But these two places offer much more than coffee! Wines, pasta dishes, desserts and a tranquil, hippie vibe! We are talking about Agora and Empire Cafe. I spent the better half of my college nights studying at Agora. So this weekend, Amanda and I got a pick-me-up from Empire Cafe!
