Ever heard of the saying: It’s Not Where You Go, It’s Who You Go With?
Well I think it’s not as much who you go with, but HOW YOU GO!
Recently I went to Athens, Santorini and then Mykonos - historic, exotic, romantic! A good recipe for a great time... well not entirely for me at the time.
Though I was in the one of the most amazing places in the world, I felt DRAINED EMOTIONALLY. I was enjoying the sites but I had low spurts of depressive thoughts and feelings where I couldn’t mentally enjoy my surroundings. I couldn’t understand why I was feeling this when I was in PARADISE?!
HERE’S WHY: Looking back I expected my surroundings to change myself on the inside.
“This is an amazing place so I SHOULD feel amazing.
I SHOULD be happy. All my problems SHOULD go away because I’m away and I’m in paradise.
I SHOULD be good.. I SHOULD be great.”
Not expecting my environment or others to make me feel BETTER - to magically solve all my problems!
Working on MYSELF through self- care and self-love is a MUST!
I have begun to focus on on being the best version of myself by changing what I focus on, what I dwell on and who I’m surrounded by.
Choosing to make something of myself and going out of my comfort zone to follow what I am most passionate about: Empowering those through their mental health journey!
Prayer, reflection, introspection and meditation have been key to center myself and progress on my journey of self improvement.
You can be ANYWHERE in the world, but if you don’t have the RIGHT MENTAL, it won’t matter sadly.
Happiness starts FROM WITHIN and is PROJECTED OUT.. to any and all surroundings.
My hope is to return to Greece one day and enjoy the vacation with the better perspective and mentality.
